In class we discusssed "The Good Life," how virtue and happiness are the same. I don't quite undestand how they are the same. Somone could be happy with themselves and not hold the virtues we discussed in class (courage, piety, justice, temperance, and friendship). Someone could be just as happy without friends as someone with friends. So, how are virtue and happiness the same. I understand that people who are courageous, have friends, and fight for justice tend to be happy, but only after they conquer something to gain courage, do something to receive friends, and win the fight for justice. This to me is very interesting, but very confusing.
We even discussed how virtue is knowledge, but this is also mind boggling because even simpletons can be courageous and have friendships without much knowledge. Right?
