In this class we will ask ‘what is philosophy?’ in the hopes of defending the importance of this discipline for the individual and society. In this endeavor we shall trek through the history of philosophy while unpacking some of the major issues and problems in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic and politics. Furthermore we will address the perennial problems of the good life, personal identity, authenticity and social responsibility.

God
Last week in class we began discussing medieval philosophers, and how their mane focus was to prove the existence of God. After hearing the ontological and teleological arguments of several of these philosophers I asked myself, why was it such a big deal that they prove God's existence anyway? In my opinion there is no possible way for man to be completely sure of God's existence, everyone makes a personal decision to be an atheist or a theist through their own faith. This seems to be even more proven by the fact that none of the arguments for Gods existence seem to be completely solid. I think it is beyond mans mental capacity to know if God really exists or not, so what is the point in philosophizing about it. You either believe or you don't.
