In this class we will ask ‘what is philosophy?’ in the hopes of defending the importance of this discipline for the individual and society. In this endeavor we shall trek through the history of philosophy while unpacking some of the major issues and problems in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic and politics. Furthermore we will address the perennial problems of the good life, personal identity, authenticity and social responsibility.

Purposeful Design of the Natural World
In class on Friday we talked about three different arguments for the proof of God's existence. The argument that caught my attention the most was Design Argument. Cicero explained, "What could be more clear or obvious when we look up at the sky and contemplate the heavens, than that there is some divinity or superior intelligence." We compared this to ourselves looking up at the stars on a clear night. All the stars are in a purposely designed order. Which corresponds with the idea of God creating the earth with a purposeful design and that there is an order to nature. If this correct then by cutting down forests or polluting water, we are destroying this meaningful order; which cannot be in good favor of the natural world.
