Last time we met for class we learned about two different philosophical schools from ancient Greece. These include Epicureanism and Stoicism. I have too many questions about both of these to even attempt to write about it. According to Epicurean philosophy is the greatest pleasure and ensures peace of mind, apparently. I can’t understand this because it seems even though one thinks about a philosophical question, or argues with someone philosophically, no conclusions can be actually known. Philosophy is too mind-boggling to induce tranquility or peace of mind. Not finding answers distresses me, and philosophy holds no real answers because there is a multitude of philosophical explanations, yes there is no way to pick the right philosophical idea. All we can do is argue for one side or the other. Also, science would seem to promote peace of mind more because you can test your hypothesis and get real tangible answers.
