In this class we will ask ‘what is philosophy?’ in the hopes of defending the importance of this discipline for the individual and society. In this endeavor we shall trek through the history of philosophy while unpacking some of the major issues and problems in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic and politics. Furthermore we will address the perennial problems of the good life, personal identity, authenticity and social responsibility.

Ethics On Texting
We haven't really discussed Ethics yet, but the next reading deals with Ethics. The other day I was in one of my classes where my professor will kick you out if she sees your phone. Well one of my classmates had her phone out and was kicked out. My question is should she have been kicked out when she technically pays to be in that class? It is rude to text while someone is lecturing, but when you are paying that professors paycheck and tutition is at an all time high, should you not be able to text if you want or need to? I do not text unless it's an emergency, but what is ethically correct?
