In this class we will ask ‘what is philosophy?’ in the hopes of defending the importance of this discipline for the individual and society. In this endeavor we shall trek through the history of philosophy while unpacking some of the major issues and problems in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic and politics. Furthermore we will address the perennial problems of the good life, personal identity, authenticity and social responsibility.

Keikegaard and living inauthentically
I think Keirkegaard's idea about living inauthentically is really something everyone should agree with. When people try to avoid emotions, anxiety, and other parts of reality, it seems really unhealthy. When people try to ignore their anxiety and true feelings, they aren't being real and they are trying to block out reality. I think this is a problem that many people have in modern society. People are so obsessed with being perfect or acting like they have no problems. By doing this, people are not only avoiding reality, but this also means they are avoiding the truth. And then Keirkegaard also says that truth in general is not important, but the truth for me and the truth i live by is important. So if i was to avoid the truth in my own life, i would be living inauthentically. This is something from Keirkegaard that i really agreed with. All people should really strive to just confront their issues and their anxiety instead of living inauthentically and trying to hide the truth from the world and from themselves.
