Women and Feminism

Over break I was watching tv and noticed how much women are seen as only objects. Shows such as Americas Next Top Model, Keeping up with the Kardashians, The Bad Girls Club, and many more objectify women to an extreme extent. In ANTM women are only seen as beautiful if they are thin and tall and can effortlessly pull off wearing designer clothes. Women are no longer placed in the shadows of society, so why are we still degrading ourselves by being men's objects?

  1. To add on to this, I think it is interesting that most of these shows are also hosted by women. Like ANTM, Tyra Banks seems to contradict herself, she hosts ANTM, a show looking for skinny models with the perfect figure and cheek bones, and she also hosts The Tyra Show, a show that helps women get over the problems that have with their bodies and so on. I remember watching an episode of The Tyra Show about cellulite and how Tyra says its normal and everyone has it, then she shows how many magazines take pictures of celebrities and alter their bodies so they do not have cellulite anymore. Then I thought to myself, 'I have never seen a picture of a model on ANTM with cellulite.' ... interesting, right?

  2. I think that is very true. Tyra Banks is always talking on her show about how women should love themselves and not give into the media, but on her show she tells the models that they are not skinny enough or not pretty enough. Its as if she wants to seem as if she wants to look like a good person but doesnt want to upset other people. its kind of a win/lose situation
