Allegory of the Cave
On January 31, 2011 we finished class with Allegory of the Cave (http:www.youtube.com/watch/v=JDotts34MY&feature=player_embedded. I could not find this link for some reason so I looked at a couple of other depictions of The Allegory of the Cave. I found these two pretty interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ei7LqbYb8M and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69F7GhASOdM. I was very confused at first but kept watching and trying to understand the main point. I realized that allegory must have something to do with purpose and in fact allegory means: an expressive style that uses fictional characters and events to describe some subject by suggestive resemblances; an extended metaphor.
I learned that if you are looking for a reason, you will find one, meaning if you are interested in finding out why or what is really going on in life you have to pay attention and open to what is really going on and not get in your own way with your beliefs or slants, etc.
I greatly appreciated the symbolism in the type of story, how an object can mean something totally different if you are looking for another meaning. I am David Toal and I approve this style of writing / story telling. Thank you.
