In this class we will ask ‘what is philosophy?’ in the hopes of defending the importance of this discipline for the individual and society. In this endeavor we shall trek through the history of philosophy while unpacking some of the major issues and problems in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic and politics. Furthermore we will address the perennial problems of the good life, personal identity, authenticity and social responsibility.

Karl Marx
I do find Marx's view on there being no noumena a bit refreshing. All this talk about what you see not being real and only a perception was giving me a headache! "the idea is in the real" and "the self is not merely a conciousness" are phrases that make me comfortable because I don't have to think to abrstractly. This way I can take everything to face value and don't have to wonder if that chair is really a chair. On the other hand, I don't know how I feel about Humans being just producers. If it is like this we might as well be ants.
