In this class we will ask ‘what is philosophy?’ in the hopes of defending the importance of this discipline for the individual and society. In this endeavor we shall trek through the history of philosophy while unpacking some of the major issues and problems in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic and politics. Furthermore we will address the perennial problems of the good life, personal identity, authenticity and social responsibility.

Did You Know?
A friend of mine showed me this video from youtube titled, "Did You Know?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL9Wu2kWwSY It made me think a ton about the question of "How do I know what I know?" In todays day and age just about anyone can proliferate lies in a very convincing fashion online. Whether it is fake news sites like The Onion or even real ones like CNN they give immediate access to people before all the facts have been checked and validated. This was just a youtube video but before it was over I was already telling my friends some of the made up statistics that had been showed to me. These types of things are quite prevalent these days and I think it makes the philosophy of epistemology a lot more complicated and interesting.
