I came across this video this weekend. I thought it was funny enough to share. But then I began thinking about what life would be like if we interacted this way. We began discussing ethics and arguments this week and I tried to apply this question to what we were talking about (unsuccessful). What I did realize is that everyday we are faced with opportunities to say "philosophy", but we don't. I believe we don't because majority of people probably wouldn't be able to handle day to day questions they can't seem to fully answer. It would be very tiring. In my mind philosophy has its time and place. It is great to do alone or with one other friend, maybe over coffee. But for a common person in a normal situation, philosophy, or more so philosophical questions are unfriendly.
In this class we will ask ‘what is philosophy?’ in the hopes of defending the importance of this discipline for the individual and society. In this endeavor we shall trek through the history of philosophy while unpacking some of the major issues and problems in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic and politics. Furthermore we will address the perennial problems of the good life, personal identity, authenticity and social responsibility.

Questioning Philosophy
So far in philosophy class we've learned pretty much that philosophy can be referred to as a bunch of unanswerable questions. No matter how much people study or make educated guesses there is still no right answer as to why humans are on this Earth and what the meaning of life is. This made me have my doubts whether or not studying philosophy would even be worth it but then I compared it to a game that my brother plays on his Playstation called LittleBigPlanet2. The game never lets you win becuase it is connected to a live feed that lets game creaters just keep creating more and more levels to play on. This just allows for an infinite amount of challenges. This reminded me of philosophy because in philosophy there are no right answers but just alot of questions. Just like in the game there is no winning but just the thrill of playing the game and testing your skills and knowledge. Just as asking the challenging questions of philosophy test your skills and broaden your range of knowledge.

Philosophy
Just after having two classes it has made me realize that I will never know exactly what Philosophy is. It’s true meaning is constantly being challenged and changed. When someone thinks that they have cracked the code and figured it all out, new questions arise from the newly made cracks. It is a constant search and discovery of new information. I do not believe that Philosophy is simply made up of questions and knowledge, but also what is not known. It is from the not knowing that questions come forth. The lack of knowledge is the driving force behind philosophy. It is what, I feel, motivates people to keep studying and searching for ways of understanding the unknown in life. Ignorance comes in various forms as we discussed in class. We talked about double ignorance, which I feel is the most common. It seems like everyone always thinks they know what is best or they have all the right answers. These are the kinds of people who close their minds off to anything that are outside of their beliefs. Simple ignorance I think springs up from laziness. There are people who are just too comfortable with their ignorance and way of life that they do not feel a need to change. Then there are the people who are virtuously ignorant; those who recognize their ignorance but are trying to change and push for answers. I think that I am virtuously ignorant. I recognize that there is a lot out in the world that I do not know, but I am willing to change and discover the answers.

Dreams
In class someone mentioned the senses they experience in dreams. How they can feel the hurt of a pinch, or the emotion in their dream. The more we were being introduced into philosophy, the more I found myself taking on the questioning activity of philosophy. I started thinking, why is it dreams are so real to us? How do dreams seem to come true for others? Are dreams just a look at the past mixed with the present? Though Sigmund Freud claimed he had answers for us you are still prone to wonder. The movie Inception explored another side of dreams. For me, after the movie I thought "Can I really control my dreams?" I experimented with trying to tell myself what I wanted to dream about before I fell asleep, or tried to pick up where I left off in another dream. To say the lease I have not found an answer. I am enjoying the philosophy of dreams and exploring it.
